Q: What is the Sourcewater Protection Program?
A: ASRWWA’s Sourcewater Protection Program is designed to help prevent source water pollution through voluntary practices implemented at the local level.
Q: What is the cost to a community for developing a Sourcewater Protection Plan?
A: ASRWWA will help developing a sourcewater protection plan free of charge. The cost of protection measures is the responsibility of the community, but our Sourcewater Protection Specialist can assist the community in finding funding sources.
Q: What are the Local Sourcewater Team members expected to do?
A: They must be committed to attending several Team meetings over the period of about nine months and providing some assistance to the Specialist in collecting information about potential contaminant sources and protection measures.
Q: Who is responsible for implementing the Sourcewater Protection Plan?
A: The Sourcewater Protection Specialist will assist the community with the implementation of at least one protection measure. When the plan is complete, it will include a list of “Steering Committee” members who are designated by the original team to lead implementation of remaining measures.
Q: What is the Wellhead Protection Program?
A: It is a program developed to protect community drinking water suppliers through voluntary practices implemented at the local level.
Q: Does a wellhead protection program cost me anything?
A: There are no costs associated with the development of this program.
Q: What is my role as an operator in developing a Wellhead Protection Plan?
A: The community water supplier operator typically is involved in the inventory of the wellhead protection area and in the review and implementation of the plan.
Q: What is the product of the Groundwater Protection Program?
A: A written plan that includes an evaluation of potential contaminant sources and a list of voluntary protection measures to protect the water supply.
